Halifax Regional Municipality experiences some of the most dramatic and rapidly changing weather and temperature conditions anywhere in Canada. This results in flash freezing, black ice, freezing rain, snow turning to rain, and snow accumulation.

What should you look for in a winter service provider?
  • A provider with a proven reputation that is able to deal with the extreme weather conditions that are an unavoidable FACT of life in the Halifax Regional Municipality.

  • A provider with the resources and experience to survive economic slow periods; the equipment, the front line manpower and infrastructure support to appropriately service your property throughout the snow and ice season. In HRM this means November 1 to April 15.

  • A provider with the appropriate level of proper insurance. You must consider the cost to you if anything should happen on your property. It's not worth the risk! Any professional service provider will be happy to show proof of insurance.

  • A provider that understands and practices due diligence as an integral (not optional) part of doing business. The Nova Scotia Occupational Health and Safety Act explicitly recognizes the importance of due diligence in the workplace, emphasizing the benefits of good practices as well as the consequences and liabilities arising from not using due diligence.

  • A provider that will put in writing the terms, conditions and costs involved in delivering a professional service to your specifications - 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, from early November to early April.

  • Maintaining and paying insurance, payroll taxes, overhead and re-investing in their businesses.
  • Committed to service and quality.
  • Keeping their equipment operable and purchasing the necessary products to maintain their accounts and grow their businesses.
