The Organic Approach - dealing with pests
Control of weeds in garden beds involves mulching with custom mulch
blends (dependent on site conditions), and timely hand-weeding before seed
propagation has occurred.

Control of pests and diseases in garden beds involves
  • monitoring
  • selective use of biological control agents and soap sprays
  • reducing stress on plants by balanced organic fertilization and timely watering,
  • use of pest resistant varieties and species
  • habitat design to encourage healthy growth of plants
  • habitat design to encourage natural enemies of pests
Control of tree pests and diseases involves first of all appropriate pruning and balanced fertilization. These steps can greatly reduce pest problems, and enhance the splendor of trees. Systemic pesticides may be used to control severe infestations, or infestations that are otherwise lethal, e.g. Dutch Elm disease. These pesticides are injected into the trees, so there is no chance of casual contact. Regardless, it is a last resort which we always discuss with the client.

See Lawncare for details of our award-winning approaches to organic lawncare.
